Employee Relations and Communications Specialist – Human Resources
Overview of the Role
This position is focused on the resolution of employee issues, HR communication, employee satisfaction and other related HR initiatives. This position interacts with all levels of leadership regarding legal compliance, discipline, terminations, and negotiated separations.
As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for building a strong connection with the employees. The Employee Relations Specialists perform a variety of duties to promote employee welfare, such as resolving human relations problems and promoting employee health and well-being. An Employee Relations Specialist explains and provides advice to employees about company policy, regulations, and procedures, and need for compliance.
You should possess excellent communication skills with the ability to manage time effectively. You should also have extraordinary negotiating skills and good counseling skills.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
Employee Relations
- Dealing with internal disputes and disciplinary grievances appropriately and communicating between management and employees.
- Handling employee complaints, managing grievance procedures and facilitating counselling in conjunction with other stakeholders.
- Investigating and resolving complex or critical employee relations issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Conducting investigations and attends meetings, as employee-management liaison, to facilitate communication between parties.
- Highlighting when managers need to be upskilled to deal with people in a fair and effective manner.
- Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
- Audits disciplinary process and examines employee records to ensure compliance with standards and regulations
- Counseling the employees and resolving their issues as well as identifying root causes for issues and misunderstandings.
- Collaborate with the legal department as required.
- Ensuring proper documentation of files related to grievances and investigations.
HR Communications
- Prepares newsletters and other reports or emails to routinely communicate information about the business or engagement calendar of events.
- Communicates initiatives and deadlines to employees in a variety of print, digital, and interpersonal ways; tasks may include creating and publishing company newsletters, calendars, blogs and Intranet posts, and hosting meetings.
- Manages global internal communication programs including the Group Intranet.
- Supports HR on communicating significant organizational changes and appointments.
- Uses engagement surveys, interviews, and other techniques to conduct research on HR policies and other employment topics, analyzes the information and makes change and improvement recommendations.
- Arranges for photography and/or press coverage for special events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the line manager.
